Provides members with the following benefits:

Up to $50,000 in accidental death and dismemberment benefit for NEA Retired members, acting on association business in the capacity of association leader
* If death is caused by an unlawful homicide which occurs while the eligible member is engaged in any activity which is in the express or implied terms of an eligible member's occupation, the benefit payable is $150,000 instead of $50,000 for claims incurred after February 6, 2001

CTA Life Insurance Plan
Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education suggests owning life insurance equal to five to seven times your annual salary
Most school districts do not provide coverage up to this level
The CTA Life Insurance Plan* offers members a flexible, level benefit plan that can help them supplement the coverage they may have through their district or other insurance sources.
Premiums start as low as $1.50 a month
Coverage options range from $25,000 to $400,000
Special offer: Premium-free coverage for the first 6 months in the $25,000 to $200,000 coverage options OR the first 3 months premium-free in the $250,000 to $400,000 coverage options. This special offer is available to new participants only.

Advanced payments for critical illness
Beginning September 1, 2001, participants in the CTA Life Insurance Program are automatically eligible for the CTA Health Information and Wellness Program at no additional cost. Participants will receive an award-winning wellness book, periodic newsletters and access to a website for information on health and wellness topics on exercise, nutrition and self-care. The CTA Health Information and Wellness Program also includes a voluntary well-baby program providing expectant mothers educational materials and 24-hour nurse access to discuss pre-natal concerns and answer questions. When you retire, you can continue your life insurance coverage through the CTA Retiree Life Insurance Plan. The retiree plan has different benefit levels and premiums. Open Enrollment Opportunities
CTA members can apply for coverage at any time, however, their application will be subject to health evidence underwriting and insurance company approval unless they enroll during an Open Enrollment.
There are two Open Enrollment opportunities offered by the plan, when members do not have to answer the health questions on the application. During an Open Enrollment, if you meet the eligibility requirements of the plan, your application will be automatically accepted, up to the $200,000 coverage level.
1) For new teachers, during the first 120 days of their employment
2) For all Chapter members, if your Chapter conducts a successful enrollment campaign and the necessary participation requirements are met

* Effective September 1, 1998, the life insurance plan changed from a decreasing term to a level term benefit design. Members who enrolled in the CTA Decreasing Term Life Insurance Plan prior to September 1, 1998 can convert their coverage to the new CTA Level Term Life Insurance Plan during an open window each year. CTA Disability Insurance
Most school districts do not provide disability insurance coverage for their employees.
Teachers are not covered under the State Disability Insurance program.
Disabilities include pregnancy, injuries that prevent you from working (such as a broken leg or back injury) and long-term illnesses (such as cancer).
The CTA Disability Plan provides benefits to members when they are sick or injured and unable to work. The Plan's benefits include:
A waiting period of seven consecutive working days or 30 calendar days, whichever is less.
$25 a day during fully paid sick leave.
$35 a day for hospital stays, no waiting period. (up to a maximum of 60 days)
Up to 75% of your daily contract salary (coordinated with other income), includes coaching pay and summer school pay.
