Grievance is a formal, written allegation by a unit member that he/she has been adversly affected by a specific violation of the Contract. If you suspect that the contract has been violated, discuss the matter with your site representative as soon as possible. There is a time limit on when you can file a grievance after a suspected violation has occurred. For more detailed information on the Grievance process, see Article 5 of the Contract.
If you suspect that the meeting could involve disciplinary action taken against you, then it's advisable that you get a site representative to come to the meeting with you. Moreover, if you go to the meeting without a rep. and find out that there's a possibility of some kind of disciplinary action being made against you, you have the right to stop the meeting until you can find and confer with a representative from the Association. Since it is difficult to think of these things on the spot, you are advised to take a representative to ALL meetings for which you do not know what the tenor will be.
An Assistance Plan, if used and written properly, can be beneficial to the teacher as a professional. There have been instances of misuse of these instruments on the part of administrators for purposes for which they were not intended. If you suspect that you have been placed on an Assistance Plan without just cause, discuss the matter with your site rep or contact Rick Piercy at the high school. There may be a course of action open to you in cases of misused or poorly written Assistance Plans.

Who are my site representatives?
A list of representatives for each site is available by going to the Officers/Reps page. Site representatives are selected each year in June by the unit members at that site.
