TO ALL YCEA MEMBERS -
By now you should have received the "Employment Plans for 2010-2011" form from the District. Here are a few things you need to know:
1. It is NOT a mandatory form. It is a form the District wishes to have in order to BEGIN planning its staffing for next year.
2. It is NOT legally binding, no matter what you put on it. You are free to change your mind - so if you say you're coming back, and then want to retire or resign, you may. If you say you're going to retire, but then change your mind, you may stay.
3. What IS legally binding is the "Offer of Employment, " or "contract" that you will receive in May. It is due by June 30. (You MUST turn it in by June 30 in order to keep your job.)
4. If you believe there is even a slight possibility you will be transferred due to low seniority, then you really should put your site/grade level/subject area choices on the "Employment Plans for 2010-11." You can add a note that you don't want to be transferred, but if you must be, then you've listed your top choices. The District will attempt to give you your choice if a transfer is necessary.
If you're an elementary teacher, keep in mind that the more grade levels you're willing to teach gives you a better chance of getting a desired site. So try not to limit yourself.

IMPORTANT UPDATES REGARDING EMPLOYMENT AND LAYOFFS
YCEA Members
On February 1, Tom and his Negotiation Team will meet with the District in their first attempt to negotiate a contract for the 2010-2011 school year.
The dire economic situation in the state will make this a difficult process, and the YCEA Negotiations Team and the YCEA Bargaining Emergency Support Team (BEST) want you to have the latest information. Please keep and eye on
your email or check with your head site reps, for updates and news.
If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to email the YCEA BEST at ycea.best@gmail.com and now you can join YCEA BEST's Facebook Group by searching "YCEA Bargaining Emergency Support Team" in the Facebook search box and request an invitation to join.
In an attempt to help members understand the complexity of our situation, YCEA BEST will attempt to provide you with answers to some of your most frequently asked questions.
During this time, it is going to be more important than ever that we stick together and trust Tom and his team to do the same outstanding job that they have done for us in the past. The District is making every attempt to pit new teachers against experienced teachers and elementary teachers against secondary. We need to show them that we are united and that we truly believe that "an injury to one is an injury to all."
